Spiritual bypassing is a coping mechanism where spiritual practices are used to avoid unresolved emotional issues, phycological wounds, and unfinished developmental task. Instead of making the darkness within conscious, spiritual discipline is used to avoid getting in touch with your deepest feelings. There's an overemphasize on embracing the positive and ignoring anything which is considered negative, making it so that you do not find balance. Balance is found only by confronting your inner demons.
From an energetic perspective, a highly sensitive and emotionally intense person is highly concentrated in the upper chakras of the body and is less concentrated to the lower chakras. The top half of the chakras are associated with higher consciousness, intuition, and spiritual connection. Having an imbalance in theses chakras can lead to spiritual bypassing, as you become disconnected from you physical and emotional body. Chakras are domains of consciousness where you can tune into that chakra and access its information. Past traumas, which are stored within the lower chakras naturally hold a lot of pain, shame, and fear. Spiritual bypassing can be a coping mechanism that keeps the soul higher in the body, and focusing on the positive, love and light. rather than dealing with one's darkness.
Spiritual bypassing uses spiritual practices to avoid dealing with emotional issues. Those who are highly sensitive and emotionally intense are highly likely to fall into to this trap due to emotional trauma. Spiritual bypassing is only a temporary solution where engaging with spiritual practices make you feel better, but only for a short period of time before what's been locked away and hidden comes back into full force. Real spiritual growth doesn't happen until your unresolved emotional trauma is worked through. If you truly want to feel better, you must heal what is blocking the light by having the courage to look within.
When you start to accept that healing needs to be addressed within the first three chakras, in order to process and release your deeper emotions, you will begin to stop spiritual bypassing. The second step it to take responsibility and seek the help and support you need towards working with your old wounds and lastly, step into practicing unconditional self-love.
