Developmental trauma occurs during a sensitive period during life, from the time of conception to the ages of around two and three, which can have a profound impact on a person's development and can lead to a range of negative outcomes. This includes the development of complex post-traumatic stress disorder (C-PTSD) in adulthood.

C-PTSD is a type of post-traumatic stress disorder that is characterized by a range of symptoms, including emotional dysregulation, dissociation, and a distorted sense of self.  Unlike traditional PTSD, which typically results from a single traumatic event, C-PTSD is often the result of ongoing, repeated trauma.

Highly sensitive and emotionally intense individuals are often particularly vulnerable to the effects of developmental trauma and may be more likely to develop C-PTSD as a result. These individuals may not realize that they have experienced trauma, as they may have been told that their experiences were normal or that they were overreacting. However, it is important to recognize the impact that developmental trauma can have and to seek out appropriate support and treatment if necessary.
